Xcellerex™ [ex-cell-er-ex]
Proven single-use technology for biomanufacturing. It’s in the bag.
There’s no question that keeping up with today’s biomanufacturing demands is challenging. Any product being considered for the lab should meet one (or more) of these requirements: drive efficiency, assurance, or flexibility. At Cytiva, we believe you should have all three. Meet the Xcellerex™ platform. Arguably the father of single-use technology, these systems deliver all three with a proven product, proven technology, and proven provider. So whether you need to make a 50L batch, a 2,000L batch, or have to do three batches this week, Xcellerex™ systems will get you where you need to go today – and where you need to be in the future.
What do you get when you combine a backyard grill, an amateur welder, and pure determination? Xcellerex™ technologies.
Before anyone had ever heard of single-use options in biomanufacturing, Parrish Galliher, the founder of the Xcellerex™ company, was determined that there had to be a better way to complete his customer projects than the clean-in-place, steam-in-place protocol used with his existing stainless steel manufacturing options. Left alone with a welding torch, a Big Green Egg grill, and his own devices, Galliher welded sides onto the grill, used a heat-sealing device to make his own bags, and fashioned a mixing mechanism on the bottom of the grill. The result? The first design for a disposable single bioreactor. After project completion, customers seemed interested in Galliher’s grill device and asked where they could purchase one. The results, they noticed were more efficient and, well, eggcellent, leading to the birth of the Xcellerex™ company.
