Supports batch, fed-batch and perfusion
Early adopters of single-use technology had to choose between undertaking fed-batch culture and investing in a perfusion bioreactor. With the XDR bioreactor platform, scientists can now cycle between batch, fed-batch and perfusion bioreactor modes, depending on their production goals. Whether migrating from re-usable technologies or opening a new facility, the XDR stirred tank bioreactor is proven and dependable. By combining many industry standard features from the re-usable bioreactor domain, scientists and processes can readily adapt to high performance, single-use bioprocessing. Whether the priority is cell density, product titer, or kLa /OTR, XDR bioreactor systems reliably deliver, with features that include:
- Jacketed stainless steel vessel for exacting temperature control.
- Robust, industrial automation for process control and data management.
- Gas mass flow and liquid pump options for highly productive cultures.
Functional in batch, fed-batch and perfusion bioreactor modes, they offer smooth transfer from process development to manufacturing scale, with the convenience and cost-effectiveness of single-use technology.
Modularity and flexibility
Modularity is fundamental to the design of XDR bioreactor systems. The three separate subsystems (vessel/frame, I/O cabinet, and X-Station controller) help maximize the configurability and manage the equipment production cycle to achieve shorter overall timelines. The separation of the X-Station controller from the Vessel-I/O Cabinet provides considerable flexibility when designing room or facility layouts.
Engineered with a spatial design consistent with existing stainless steel units
At Cytiva, we understand how vital process scalability can be. Scientists need predictability during process development and ultimately, when defining production sizes. For this reason, the complete range of XDR bioreactors has been engineered with a spatial design that is consistent with existing stainless steel units. From gas flow rates to shear, power in, tip speed and more, XDR bioreactors offer the same scaling toolbox found in re-usable bioreactors and fermentors.
Single-use bioreactor bag assemblies
The XDR bioreactor bag is an essential part of the process performance achieved with XDR bioreactor systems. Constructed with a contact layer of USP class VI-compliant low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic, the bioreactor bags are robust to withstand process conditions. All bioreactor bag assemblies incorporate a seal-less, bottom-mounted, impeller/sparger assembly with a centrally positioned integral magnet.
